CulturalRoad presents its vision for transport equity at the ITS World Congress 2024 in Dubai

From 16 to 20 September 2024, the 30th edition of the ITS World Congress, organised by our Coordinator ERTICO, brought together global experts to explore the future of transport and mobility. The event provided a perfect platform for CulturalRoad to present its vision for more equitable Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) deployment to the international ITS community, connect with international stakeholders, and foster valuable collaborations.

On Wednesday 18 September, CulturalRoad was introduced at the ERTICO stand by our WP5 Leader, Milica Zizic (ERTICO). Her presentation offered a comprehensive overview of our project, highlighting CulturalRoad’s main objective of leveraging participatory planning to ensure that CCAM deployment strategies take into account cultural and geographical diversity. She emphasised CulturalRoad’s innovative approach to increase societal acceptance of CCAM services by actively engaging with local communities and stakeholders to develop tailor-made CCAM deployment plans that address local needs. The CulturalRoad Five-Pointed Star Rating system that will be developed to assess the level of mobility equity of existing systems was also introduced, as well as our five demonstration sites.

CulturalRoad was also introduced in Special Interest Sessions addressing societal aspects of mobility. For instance, Milica Zizic presented the project’s goals during TP 3 on “Societal aspects and human factors”. Dr Stephane Dreher (Head of CCAM – ERTICO) presented a brief overview of CulturalRoad during SIS 56, “How to Solve Societal Issues for the Realisation of Sustainable Mobility Services” with speakers from Japan.

Our Project Coordinator, John Paddington, took part in a technical visit to see how Cruise are conducting safety trials of autonomous taxis in mixed traffic in Dubai, before launching to the public. John also discussed the project during sessions on inclusion and accessibility during the Congress.

In addition to participating in these discussions, CulturalRoad had a dedicated stand at the ERTICO booth, where visitors could explore the project in greater detail. Visitors had the opportunity to learn more about our methodology and visit our website on an interactive screen.
