Co-developing a Roadmap to Deploy CCAM in the Metropolitan Mobility System of Barcelona (Regional)
Context
Barcelona (Regional) has a population of 5.5 million and a GDP per capita of €46,000. It features a very dense central area, among the highest population densities in Europe, alongside areas with very low density, particularly in Central Catalonia. The transport network is extensive, including bus, tram, and metro services.
The CCAM (Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility) maturity is low to medium, with some demonstrators such as the Logismile project for last-mile distribution and the Erika project, which introduced the first autonomous bus in Catalonia. Research aspects focus on integrating freight and public transport CCAM into master planning.
Objectives of the demonstration
The primary objective is to develop a CCAM deployment roadmap for the region of Catalonia, Spain, covering both passenger and freight transport. The focus will be on using participatory methods to enhance passenger and collective transport services, aiming to expand the existing public transport network.
The project will update the initial top-down CCAM deployment map created by CARNET and ATM using results from the Two-Step co-creation framework to adopt a bottom-up participatory approach.
Expected outcomes
Roadmap Creation: A comprehensive roadmap of actions to integrate CCAM solutions into the mobility ecosystem, detailing the necessary actions for the Mobility Master Plan and Urban Mobility Plans
Definition of KPIs: Establishment of specific KPIs related to CCAM, addressing the current lack of evaluation metrics.
Knowledge Transfer: Effective knowledge transfer at the municipal level, enabling municipalities to incorporate these actions into their urban mobility plans and evaluation mechanisms. The ATM (Autoritat de Transport Metropolità de Barcelona) will evaluate and integrate these actions within its work and control processes, including urban mobility plan evaluations, municipal indicator surveys, and mobility
